Gümüs, Bornova Stray Animals

I first met Gümüş in March 2024, shortly after I moved to my new neighbourhood. She was one of many unneutered cats who received no medical treatment when they fell ill, supposedly “cared for” only by having leftover food placed near the trash. Gümüş had taken refuge in a garden, and her condition was heartbreaking. Upon seeing her, I immediately caught her and took her to the veterinarian.

On the way, I thought she had been hit by a car. However, the truth was revealed at the veterinary clinic: Gümüş was pregnant and was still almost a kitten herself. Although her babies had not yet been born, they had become worm-infested in her womb, causing damage to her internal organs. The veterinarians gave us little hope, saying, “She may not survive the night.” Still, they did everything in their power for which I am incredibly grateful.

The first three days were extremely difficult for both Gümüş and us. However, she fought hard for her life. With love and proper care, Gümüş managed to survive. Today, this beautiful girl is one of many souls I care for and have rescued in the garden, and she has a happy ending. She continues to live safely and peacefully with her friends. Thank God.
